The 1 Hour Outfit

I wore one of my favorite outfit options this past weekend.  Sadly, I was only able to wear it an hour because I spilled hand soap down the front of it.  Lesson learned don't perch a full bottle of liquid soap on top of the sink, opened.  Nine times out of ten it will splatter and ruin your cute outfit.  Atleast it's one step closer to the washer, no need to add detergent! ;)

Outfits Lately a la Pinterest

My resolve to overhaul my closet and to gather inspiration from my Pinterest pins has gotten better.  I'm still gathering stuff to donate or try to sell.  I'm making a trip to my parents this week to go through the rest of the clothing I have there, which isn't a lot since it's mainly emergency items I may need if I'm staying over for the night.  That being said, I've been attempting to dress more in a way that reflects my style.  I've also have been making a conscious effort to wear normal clothes during the week instead of workout gear 24/7.  Partly this is all thanks to the hot and humid temps this week and wanting to work out in the early am.  The other dressing for fun and not taking it too seriously.  Here are three looks that came from inspiration a la Pinterest.

Cream Lace ScallopTop: F21 (similar), Jean Shorts: American Eagle, Belt: American Eagle (similar), Chunky Bracelet:Vintage (similar), Thin Bracelet: Banana Republic (similar)
You can't tell in the b&w photo but there is some color in the outfit.  The belt has a pink thread woven into it and the thin bracelet is aqua with gold detailing.  I ended up going to a hockey game in the afternoon and threw a navy blazer (from this post) over it to keep me warm.

Striped Maxi: THML (similar), Bracelet: JCP (similar)
This dress is from my last Stitchfix.  I was so excited to wear this because it has all of my favorite things into one outfit.  Stripes, details, maxi dress, check!  Completely effortless in 90 degree weather.

I actually wore this outfit a month ago for our one year anniversary.

Top: Zara (similar: here and here), Mint Cardi: Gap (similar: here and here), Dark Wash Jeans: the Limited (almost the exact here)

The Chambray Debate

Yesterday's shopping outfit to which I did not resort to a "plain, old tee" and jeans but an actual shirt is a win in my book.  Pattern play a bonus.

I have been on the hunt for the perfect lighter chambray top to add to my wardrobe for a few months now.  I have been eyeing this J.Crew one for quite sometime and decided to go ahead and buy it yesterday.  After trying on two different sizes, I'm not sure which one to get.  Part of me says the larger size because Stacy and Clinton would kindly tell me that I have a bit of body dysmorphia because think I am bigger than what I am  I am more comfortable with bigger tops and skinnier bottoms.  On the other hand aka the voice of reason tells me the medium fits me much better.  (Stacy and Clinton would also add that when you wear bigger clothes you tend to look bigger.)  I ended up leaving with no top for now until I can decide on a size.

Medium
Large
Can I add that I love the hot pink tank underneath?  Too bad it wasn't the correct size or I would have snapped it up faster than you can say neon azalea. ;)

What size would you choose?
Have you experienced body dysmorphia when trying on clothes?

Learning & Reusing

In an attempt to wear pieces that I've purchased a few years ago, I present this cream top and the blazer below.  Before I started reading/following style blogs I probably would have chucked these two pieces without batting eye.  (Marriage also makes you more um money conscience.)

I must say I am pretty proud of myself,  I never thought of myself as a "blazer person" but I've worn it several different ways and didn't feel like a stuffy business person in it.  The top is pretty much an easy piece to incorporate into my wardrobe.  I think I never wore it because it was too dressy for every day life.  Reading style blogs has made me realize almost anything goes anymore.  Just as long as your confident in your clothing, that's all that matters.  You don't need to have the most expensive trench or the latest handbag and shoes to look fabulous.  As long as you're you, that's always in style.

What have you learned from reading style/fashion blogs?

Anything in your closet that you've purchased but have never worn?

WIWW: The Blazer

I always seem to shy away from blazer because it feels like seriously stuffy business wear.  Jill who blogs at the Good Life for Less always wears them effortlessly on any given day while working from home or going on field trips with her kids.  Here is my take on her polished casual look.

Gap Blazer (similar), VS Pink Shirt (similar), Anthropologie Spice Market Scarf, J.Crew Belt (similar),  NY&Co Skinnies (similar), Loft Earrings (similar)

Are you a fan of blazers?  How do you dress them down for more "weekend" wear style?

WIWW: Citrusy or Mustard Glazed Salmon

I was feeling a little adventurous and tried out a bright color combo to combat the winter blues this past week.  I originally thought that the palette reminded me of a grapefruit, but when writing this post it now reminds of mustard and salmon, lol.   I do like the color combo but I feel that the sweater is too "heavy" for the outfit.  I ended up wearing the brown boots from this post.  Feedback/thoughts?    P.S. notice the Westie photobomb in the right corner.  ;)

Loft Sweater, Target Thermal, Gap Outlet pants, F21 Necklace

Hope you have a great Wednesday!

WIWW: Birthday Layers

I've been experimenting with layers lately. I tend to think of blazers as work wear and not weekend wear.  This outfit I wore this past Saturday to celebrate my mom's birthday.

Walmrt Pink + Orange  Earrings, Scarf: Gift, Gap Blazer, Target Softest Sweater, Zara Jeans, Jade Bracelet: Gift

Tucked in the sweater sleeves = much better.

And my birthday outfit.
Old Navy Leopard Button Down, J.crew Tippi Sweater, Zara Jeans, Leaf Earrings: Gift
Have a great Wednesday everyone!

WIWW- Pops of Color

Linking up again with the Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday.  This week I vowed to wear a bit more color and to make things more interesting.  Ok so the first outfit is devoid of color, but I was digging the fur vest. ;)

Channeling my inner Rachel Zoe with an arm full of bangles.

ON Purple Cardi, NY&Co Orange Top, Jcrew Belt, Target Jeans

Putting it in Neutral - WIWW

Thank you for all of the sweet comments on my last post.  :) I truly appreciate every single on of them. Well on the outfit front, I did layer interest wise it all kind of looks like oatmeal. :P  My husband had 2 weeks off hence the lack of "real outfits which made me debate on whether or not to post.  But ultimately I decided to go for it because nothing is "perfect irl hehe. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Wintery WIWW

We got a blast of snow after Christmas here so it's all about dressing warmly from here until Spring.  I don't know about you but I find winter time to be the most uninspiring time (fashion wise).  Only one outfit this week, the rest are sweatpants & warm fleece hoodies with thermals while cozying up with the hubby. ;)

ON Fur Vest, Target Plaid Flannel, NY& Co skinnies, & tan Uggs (not pictured)

Target Earrings.  I look mad in the picture, but I swear I'm not lol

Do you have a hard time staying "stylish" with winter weather?

WIWW

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with loved ones yesterday.  We had a low key holiday over here.  Hubby woke up sick and we ended up not going to my parents to open gifts.  We did manage to make it to my aunt's for dinner, which I was happy & grateful for.  Here's a quick recap of what I have been wearing lately.  I've already have gotten my money's worth out of that JCrew belt!

Christmas Day:
F21 mint/gold dot top, Madewell tank, Jcrew Factory belt and Limited dark skinnies

Added a cardi to see what it would look like.

Holiday Purchases for Moi

recent purchases

recent purchases by alatteinspiration featuring knit sweaters

I recently took advantage of some online sales and came away with these items.  At the top, J.crew Factory belt. Middle from left: J.Crew Tippi Sweater, J.Crew Sequin Stripe Tee, and Forever 21 Mint & Gold Dot top.  Bottom from left: J.Crew Factory Dot Top, J.Crew Factory Cotton Sweater, and Anthropologie Spice Market Scarf.

I've already been wearing the scarf and belt.  I love how neutral the belt is but the embossed snakeskin print gives it extra pizazz. The scarf I am seriously in love with.  I love all of the beautiful colors.  Perfect for a white/grey v-neck tee and jeans kind of day.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

WIWW: Christmas Party

This past Saturday we attended my husband's work party for his part time job. Since it his first year there, this was the only pic I got. Didn't want to be the weird girl taking photos in the bathroom hehe. Dress: Calvin Klein, Ruffle cardi: NY&CO, Black Patent Peeptoe Heels: Macy's.

On a completely random note, these shoes were comfortable but I thought they would be even better if I put padded insoles (Foot Petals) in them. Joke's on me because now they're uncomfortable! Any tips on removing them and getting the glue unstuck from them?

Oh yes, I love when the hubby color coordinates with me. ;)

Stitchfix Review

I signed up to get my first fix on the 14th.  I received my package after work on Friday.  I specified for business, laid back, and trendy casual clothing within a $50-$100 price range.  This is what I was sent:

I did like this cuff, I like the boldness of it but thought it was a tad plain for the price.

Loved, the color of this top.  I have been getting into the habit of wearing more color and color combining.  The flowy-ness and the sleeves were right on too.  I tend to prefer looser fitting tops with tighter bottoms so this was perfect for me.

Love the outfit ideas they give!

The cardi was my least favorite, I wasn't digging the color scheme and length.  It was soft and can see it being a year round essential.  Plus, it doesn't wrinkle so you can throw it in your purse or travel bag.

I'm not a button down type of gal, however the shoulder detail and the multi-color flecks in this top make it cute and unique.  However it was on the thin/sheer side.

Since starting my job, I find that I need more dressier dresses for work.  I love how I can dress this with heels and a blazer for work or a chunky knit scarf, leggings, and riding boots for weekend.

What did I keep? The navy dress.  I love how convenient this service is and the little outfit ideas that come with it.  Perfect for the working woman to the stay at home mom.  I'm thinking a Stitchfix would be perfect gift for the holidays. Sign up today to treat yourself or that special gal in your life for a fun surprise.

Outfit of the day: Taking Chances

Can I tell you a secret? I have never thought of myself as adventurous dresser (preppy & classy come to mind) and I'm not a fan of change. I would admire "cool" outfits on blogs from afar and wish I could pull them off. Truth is I can pull them off. One of my new years resolution is to take more fashion risks. I've always believed that I am more of a creative person than logical, so why not put it to use?

Here is my first attempt:

ON Chambray Shirt, H&M Silver dress used as a vest, Limited dark skinny jeans, Gap belt, and Macy's necklace.

I also had these boots on:
Gojane boots

Looking back I don't why I was so scared to take a fashion chance. No one got hurt, the world didn't come to an end.... Seriously I hope to take more and to experiment with my style.  And most importantly not take myself so seriously.

What to wear....

My fiancé and I are going with his sister and her boyfriend to see Trans Siberian Orchestra this Friday. I think we're doing dinner and stuff in the city but I can't decide what to outfit I like the best. Although I will say I am leaning towards the printed top because the shades are so pretty & colorful.

Too much going on with the ruffles and print?
NY&Co Cardi (old), BR Outlet Top(newish Fall 2011)  and NY&Co Brown Pants (old)
Or how about ruffles, a tie neck top and window pane plaid pants?
NY&Co Cardi (old), Old Navy Top (old), NY&Co Pants (old)
Or just use a different cardigan?
NY&Co Cardi (extremely old), BR Outlet Top (Fall 2011) and NY&Co Brown Pants (old)

What's your favorite? 1, 2, or 3?

P.S. Stumbled upon this messy bun tutorial last night from Veronika.  So easy & chic, definitely will be using it these next few days. :)

Weekend Outfits

While giving her readers a tour of her closet, Cori showed a spot where she placed pre-planned outfits on hangers for those in case of last minute woes. I thought that this was a great idea. Normally I wait until the last minute or will look at for inspiration and have no luck thus it yields to so-so outfits. I know its suppose to be cold this weekend here in Pittsburgh, so I definitely planned for layers. (Oddly enough I hate to layer for some reason, I guess I think more layers=more laundry hehe). So here are the outfits I picked out.

Target Black Turtleneck
Target Zipper Rosette Tank
NY&Co Straight Jeans
Gold bracelets

Target Thermal
Land's End Down Vest
NY&Co Straight Jeans

NY&Co Orange Ruffle Shirt
NY&Co Embellished Cardi
ON Wide Leg Trouser Jeans
Gold Crystal Chandelier Earrings (not pictured)

Gold snakeskin flats to be paired with 1st & 3rd outfits.

Note to self, when creating these outfits I realized I do not have any solid, neutral scarves (need gray or cream)...perhaps this will be next on my shopping list.
